Every June, the hillsides of Bac Giang turn red. Farmers handpick fruit destined for shelves in Japan, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. This is where Vietnam’s most celebrated lychee comes from, and in 2025 it is having its best season yet.
Bac Giang is the lychee capital of Vietnam. The province cultivates approximately 29,700 hectares of lychee, accounting for over 60% of its total fruit growing area, with an expected yield of 165,000 tonnes in 2025. It leads the nation with over 240 certified planting areas spanning 17,421 hectares.
The reputation is built on more than scale. Geography, climate, and generations of farming knowledge combine to produce a fruit with intense natural sweetness, a distinctive floral fragrance, and a vivid red skin that stands out in any market. Bac Giang lychee is grown to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards, with its geographical indication protected in eight countries. Farmers follow strict compliance requirements and maintain detailed production logs meeting the standards of Japan, the US, the EU, and Australia.
Bac Giang operates 37 facilities meeting requirements for the Chinese market, one fumigation and packaging facility linked with three external fumigation facilities for Japan, and full irradiation support for Australia and the US. From 2025, Japan has authorised Vietnam to independently supervise its own treatment process, reducing time and costs for farmers and exporters significantly.
On the domestic front, Bac Giang’s lychee production has grown substantially. In 2025, approximately 60% of Vietnam’s total lychee output is designated for domestic consumption, translating to roughly 181,800 tonnes distributed through wholesale markets, supermarkets, and e-commerce platforms nationwide. Bac Giang alone contributes over 54% of all lychee consumed domestically in Vietnam, cementing its role not just as the country’s leading export hub but as the backbone of domestic supply as well.
Bac Giang lychee now reaches more than 30 countries and territories, with the Middle East growing steadily as a priority destination alongside China, Japan, Europe, and the United States. Cold chain investment, certified logistics, and rigorous export documentation underpin every shipment that leaves the province.

Lychee is one of the most delicate fruits in export. Its vivid red skin begins to brown within hours of harvest without proper handling. Its shelf life is short and its sensitivity to temperature and humidity during transit is high.
At Sunshine Group we source directly from certified growing areas in Bac Giang, working only with farmers and cooperatives meeting VietGAP and GlobalGAP requirements. Every lychee is sorted by size, colour, and quality, packed in temperature controlled facilities that preserve freshness from harvest to arrival.
Vietnamese lychee has earned its place on the world stage. At Sunshine Group our role is to make sure it stays there. Through rigorous sourcing, premium packaging, and an uncompromising standard of care at every step of the supply chain, we are proud to bring Bac Giang’s finest to markets around the world.
