[Procedure] Bell Capsicum Harvest and Export
The bell capsicum, commonly known as bell pepper, is a type of fruit. Their plants typically grow 0.6-0.9 m tall and prefer to be grown in tropical climates. The capsicum fruit comes in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.
Harvesting
The bell capsicum is ready to harvest when the seedlings mature. For red capsicum, the fruit will start from a green color and will change as it ripens. It is recommended that the capsicum be harvested in the early morning when the fruit temperature is low.
The bell capsicum is soft and easy to damage, the harvesters needed to collect them carefully. Harvesters use sharp scissors or pruners to cut the stem on top of the fruits.
Post-Harvest
The bell capsicum will be sorted once it has been gathered from the field. Exporters can guarantee the quality of your products by eliminating any bruised, broken, deformed, or infected fruits. After removing defective and ineligible items, the products will be sorted into groups based on dimensions, color, and shape.
After being moved to the packaging facility, the bell capsicums will be wrapped in crates or corrugated cartons with vent holes to allow for improved air circulation. To slow the ripening process and minimize spoilage, the fruit boxes will be packed, piled on a pallet, and stored in cold storage at 5–12°C (41–53°F) with a 95–98% humidity.
Transportation
One factor in maintaining the product’s freshness condition, freezer containers are required for transportation over a long period. Maintaining a constant temperature 𝟓-𝟏𝟐°𝐂 (𝟒𝟏-𝟓𝟑°𝐅) and humidity level of 95-98% is the key to product freshness for exporters.
When transporting the box, it’s safe and efficient to use a pallet jack for easy transportation of the bell capsicum pallet box to a freezer container. Ensure the product’s freshness by organizing the boxes in the freezer container to allow for better air ventilation.
