[Procedure] Seedless Lime Harvest and and Export
The seedless lime, also known as the Persian Lime, contains few to no seeds. These lime trees thrive in the climate of Vietnam and produce fruit consistently after reaching maturity. As a result, seedless limes are available year-round.
The lime tree should take up 3 to 5 years for its fruit to bear. Moreover, the harvest time for seedless lime is 6 to 8 months to mature.
Harvesting
Seedless limes are typically harvested when they reach full size and exhibit a bright green color. They should be picked carefully to avoid damaging the fruit. Harvesting is often done by hand to ensure selective picking of the best quality limes. The tools mostly used are scissors, allowing the harvester to select and pick the desired size.
Post-Harvest
The pickled seedless lime will be sorted using a machine, it will go through a plate with different sizes to be sorted based on their size and type. Any damaged, soft, or deformed limes will be discarded and reused as compost.
The limes will be packaged in box containers with vent holes for air ventilation and do not require additional packaging besides the box container.
After packaging the lime, the boxes will be stacked on a pallet with gaps between the boxes for better air ventilation. They will be stored in cold storage that keeps the temperature of 2°C and 5°C (38°F to 41°F) and the humidity level of 85-95% constant to slow down the ripe rate and spoilage.
Transportation
To ensure the product’s freshness during transportation requires the use of freezer containers over extended periods. Keeping a consistent temperature of 2°C to 5°C (38°F to 41°F) and humidity levels between 85-95% is crucial for maintaining product freshness for exporters.
When transporting the box, it’s safe and efficient to use a pallet jack for easy transportation of the lime pallet box to a freezer container. Make sure to organize the boxes in the freezer container to allow for better air ventilation.
